MUSIC DEPARTMENT NOTES

Grades 7-12 Band and Choir Students have begun work on solos and ensembles in preparation for the Solo & Ensemble Festival to be held on Saturday, April 2, at Hillsboro Schools. REMINDER:  A SOLO & ENSEMBLE LETTER IS BEING SENT HOME WITH GR.7-12 BAND & CHOIR STUDENTS.  THIS LETTER NEEDS TO BE SIGNED BY PARENTS & IS DUE BACK TO MRS. TOLZMANN BY WED., FEB. 10!! The students are highly encouraged to participate in this very fun and educational event.  Students receive  extra credit points for each performance at Solo & Ensemble.

 

The MS & HS Bands will take their annual trip to the UW-Varsity Band Concert this year on Friday, April 15.  This trip is only open to Middle School  & High School Band students and their families.

 

The Middle School & High School Choirs will be participating in Concert Festival at Hillsboro Schools on Wednesday, February 24.  This event takes place during the school day.  Our performance times have not been announced yet.   Middle School Choir students wear their Music T-shirt, Black pants, Black socks, Black shoes.  High School Choir students wear their White or Black dress-shirt, Black pants, Black socks, Black shoes, along with the choir robes.   At Concert Festival, choirs from our other Little Rivers Music Conference schools perform prepared selections from the WSMA Concert Music list, for 3 judges.  The judges then critique the performing group and give the group a brief clinic on how the group can improve overall playing, as well as improve the specific music performed.  The choirs participating listen to other groups from the other schools and write their own critique of those performances.  Concert Festival is a tremendous useful learning and performing experience for our students.   The MS Choir is preparing two pieces for Concert Festival:  a Japanese Folk Song sung in Japanese called “Shojojee”, and a Spiritual called “Chariot’s Comin’”.  The HS Choir is preparing two pieces:  “Odi Odi”, a Tamil Folk song in the Tamil language, and the beautiful choral piece “For the Beauty of the Earth”, by John Rutter.

 

The following HS Choir students will be participating in the Little Rivers Music Conference All-Conference Honors Choir at Royall Schools on March 8:  Sylvia Deitelhoff, Jarikka Douglas, Peri Hineman, Jerry Larrabee, Payton McGlynn, Ashley Meyer, Laurie Meyer, Thomas Roessler, and Abby Rothering.
