Have you ever wondered about the world of Special Education? I know I have. As the Director
of Special Education in the Weston School District I want to keep you up to date and informed.
Let me first introduce myself to those that may not know me, I am Molly Kasten, along with my
duties as the director of Special Ed. I am the Middle School/High School Lead Teacher and
Middle School Cross Categorical Teacher.
As a life long learner I have continued my education at Cardinal Stritch- receiving my Masters in
Curriculum and Administration. Currently, I am enrolled at Cardinal Stritch, in the Special
Education Leadership program.
Working through this program I have come to realize that families and community are the key to
making our school a success. I will be using my resources from my classes to share information
about special education topics with families and the community. One of the first steps towards
keeping you abreast in the world of Special Education will be regular postings and information
on topics related to special education along with a Parent Liaison position that is part of a grant
through the Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI).
While trying to find specific topics in special education to share with families and the community,
I found a special education legislative history timeline in my Legal and Political Analysis of
Special Education Course. I felt that it was best to start at the beginning and proceed through
time over the remainder of the school year. Legislative history does not tell the entire story,
there are also several important court cases and decisions that contributed to this history. I
found the following time line that included both events.
Please take some time to look through this link, starting in 1947. If you have any questions or
